The goal for this project was to make something look like it was done on paper but actually we were using 3D as our medium. Our professor wanted to see what would we come up with in the amount of time provided.
I used Maya to model and put together the scene. Transferred everything to Cinema 4D to texture and light everything. I chose to use Octane for this project because it was a very quick project and I just wanted some quick look development on it. I simulated very quick basic liquid simulation in Realflow, I knew we wouldn’t be able to see a lot of details in the final image after the post processing so I saved some time there.
The final image was created with the help of Photoshop Filters, it was very fun to play with all of them but in the end I found myself using a plugin called Watercolor Fx. Along with that plugin I used some photoshop dry brush techniques to achieve the final result.
Interesting part of this assignment to me was getting the light to react with the glass like it does in the second image. For that I used a random abstract oil paint image from google as an HDRi to light the scene along with an Octane Sunlight. I had to do some processing on the image in order to achieve the desired painterly effect, I took the image to photoshop and applied artistic filters to it.
